We were down for a bit
[12:00 am]
sashaDesign was down for a couple of hours due to power cut. I am sorry for any inconvenience.
Isn't it time for me to change the profession? Shouldn't I just quit this web design stuff? I really love what I'm doing but I just cannot compete with some guys and their ebay prices.

Apache, PHP and MySQL
[12:00 am]
How did you get in here? I know there are many strange ways how people drop by this place but this one made me laugh today.
I had a little bit more time this weekend so that I finally got Apache, PHP and mySQL working together on my local machine. Pretty neat stuff! I know Linux is supposed to be better for that purpose, but I use win2000 :-). One thing I've noticed so far comparing PHP with ASP is that support for connecting to DB is built right into PHP. Less coding I guess. The tutorial on mySQL.com web site helped me a lot to grasp the concept.

Adbusters' Re-design Contest
[12:00 am]
Check out the Adbusters' Re-design Contest. I find this magazine definitely interesting. Reading it you will definitely widen your horizons. Here is the image that I sent to them.
Just in case you get lost in here, I've just created a custom 404 error page exclusively for you.

This page is finally on the first place if you do a Google search for Sasa Kulic.
The same with AltaVista search.
I am so happy now :-)

Webmonkey redesign
[12:00 am]
Webmonkey's front page seems to be different today. It's a strange feeling when you see the new design on a page that hasn't been changed for so long.

Simmone Jade Mackinnon
[12:00 am]
After a couple of very busy weeks I finally got some rest again and had more then 7 hours of sleep. I cannot remember when it happened last time.
Saturday night is our movie night. This time we watched Attila. An amazing movie. I can only recommend it. Sofia liked Attila (Gerard Butler), but I preferred N'Kara (Simmone Jade Mackinnon) :-)
Today we had a barbecue and played a game of badminton. Yes, there is real flora and fauna out there! Don't miss it!

Windows 2000, Service Pack 2 released
[12:00 am]
A note for all of you Windows 2000 users:
Service Pack 2 (SP2) is now available.
It should fix whole bunch of bugs.
I have a final exam on Friday and don't think I will do well. Math needs time and I am cronically in time trouble.

dvwssr.dll, a backdoor?
[12:00 am]
Big Brother is watching you!
According to the Yahoo article Microsoft has a backdoor password into IIS web servers running FrontPage 98 server extensions.
dvwssr.dll is the key file.
I hate FrontPage extensions!

My PC keeps crashing
[12:00 am]
It hears me. It knows what I am talking about. No, no I am not sitting to much in front of it, I know what you say . . .
Strange thing have been happening with my new PC since I bought it. The system stops responding occasionally. Everything works perfect until that very moment. Yesterday was one of those good days when it worked like a charm all day long . . . until I said "Sofia, it is amazing, the system haven't . . . " No, it cannot be a coincidence!
I spent some time today to find out what it could be. I think this is what causes the problem. And indeed, since I installed the patch I . . . (pssst).
Italian researchers claim to have found conclusive evidence that life on Earth arrived from outer space.
Why didn't they ask me? I knew that already. I have no proof but it is obvious.

Shredder and Ampersands
[12:00 am]
Shredder has different opinion of how my web site should look like.
I don't like horizontal scrolling but everything else looks neat. I might use the suggestion in the next version of sashaDesign.
How should we use the ampersand (&) inside a url for CGI/Server Side Scripting and still get our pages clean when we send them through the W3C html/css validator?
Use & instead of & in your links and everything will be OK.

Woob - On Earth
[12:00 am]
Need some inspiration?
I've just downloaded "Woob - On Earth" from Napster. Totally unknown for me. About 46 MB, but it is worth it. Amazing stuff!
Tip while listening: close you eyes, lean back in your chair and enjoy.

I got hacked
[12:00 am]
My development web site at home looked pretty messy today.
Dear Mr. Hacker if you touch my pages please leave them at least well-formated.
I searched through the web to find out how they do this things and I discovered it to a certain degree. It is amazing how simple it is. I am not going to teach you how to do that, because I caused enough trouble to my brother, but I'll give you a useful link. It should save you some time and frustration.
Good luck.

Just a perfect day here in Toronto. Not too hot not too cold.
I couldn't resist and finally bought XML Black Book 2nd Edition.

Steven Spielberg's movie A.I.
[12:00 am]
I am not a big movie fan, mostly because I prefer to spend my time on the net or learning new stuff, but this story made me so curious that I can barely wait to see the new Steven Spielberg's movie A.I. (A.I. - stands for Artifical Intelligence).
The web ring was uncovered after eagle-eyed movie fans did a web search for information on a single clue contained in the film's trailer: Jeanine Salla, sentient machine therapist.
Searching that name led to a website dedicated to the fictitious Bangalore World University, and then on to Salla's own webpage. That page, in turn, links to a number of websites examining the death of someone named Evan Chan, who was allegedly killed by an artificially intelligent being, Scifi.com reports.

Admin tool
[12:00 am]
I finally managed to write an admin script which would allow me to update this section easily, i.e. without opening DB file directly where actually all this here comes from. I hope this will work smoothly.
I also added exit section which I will update weekly.
Maybe.

IIS 5 vulnerability, SELFHTML and Brainrub
[12:00 am]
IIS 5 vulnerability discovered! Unchecked Buffer in ISAPI Extension Could Enable Compromise of IIS 5.0 Server. Microsoft strongly urges all IIS 5.0 server administrators to install the patch immediately.
Funny thing, in the "Technical details" section it says: "Such code would run in the Local System security context. This would give the attacker complete control of the server, and would enable her to take virtually any action she chose." I knew that only women would do such things! :-)
Heh, it is amazing how the log files can become large with this CSS skinning thing :-)
SELFHTML (German language) is on the road again. I am really happy to see it breathing again. Despite the fact that I had been a passive viewer most of the time in the past, I really missed it a lot. I am surely not the only one. I've just posted the first message! I am privileged somehow, it is 6.30 in Germany right now, most forum users are still sleeping. Good luck SELFHTML!
Apparently the board is built using XML technology. I also want to be able to tweak XML code! A good starting point for all of you who have the same goal.
My friend, fellow coworker and a smart guy Adam with a few more smart people has recently launched brainrub. Brainrub follows a simple goal: to help you discover some great sites, useful features and neat stuff. They say: "Think of us like the magazine aisle at the grocery store - you come, you browse, you find things of interest, you smile."
