Lake Simcoe
[12:00 am]

We had a nice day at Lake Simcoe which is about 100 km north of Toronto. Lake Simcoe is the sixth largest inland lake in the province covering about 725 sq. km and it is often recognized as the ice fishing capital of North America. It is really fun to leave the crowded city for a moment. Ontario offers plenty of natural scenery and opportunities to do so.

Zeitgeist
[12:00 am]

Just discovered Google Zeitgeist (German: spirit of the age). This page is supposed to be updated on a monthly, weekly, and sometimes daily basis. We hope it will because it exposes some interesting trends, patterns, and surprises.

In case you missed assembler.org and Brent's brilliant code as I did, the web site is up and reassembled. The URL is a bit different though instead of www type xlat.

Do a search for "nice things" and you will find some of the nicest things among the first ten results.

The server is sloooooow. Hopefully it will be fixed tomorrow. Sorry . . .

I've just added a nifty little feature called "Add Your Scrawl". In case you want to bitch about my blogs you can do it now in a convenient way ;-)

Toronto weather, no fun
[12:00 am]

So what's up in Toronto?
Smog advisory in effect . . . Humidex advisory in effect . . .
It is inhumanely humid here. I feel like I need gills rather than lungs some days. The air is so full of water. And they plan to repair our balconies. That means the balcony doors must stay closed until the work is done due to the security reasons! How will we survive closed doors? My neighbour is having that fun already ;-)

Webby Awards 2001
[12:00 am]

I've spent about 5 hours tweaking around with ASP code and Data Base connection. Figured out nothing :-( Tomorrow is another day.

Do not forget to check the Webby Awards' Winners List for this year! Lots of interesting stuff. Personal Web Site winner is Dancing Paul. Extremely entertaining.

A few interesting things for today
[12:00 am]

sashaDesign pornolized!

I was looking for MSN Emoticons and went to the MSN Service Help Page but what I got was this:

error '80070003'
The system cannot find the path specified.
E:\WEBROOT\PRODUCTION\HELP\CONTENT\EN_US\
SEARCH\..\..\!shared\search\xfind.inc/find_func.inc, line 42

Isn't it cool to see a bit of the Microsoft's Web Site structure? I was wondering if I could find a folder called "bills_stuff", "private_letters" or something similar, but nothing there :-) After couple of seconds the error was fixed.

Small trick for today:
Think of a number. Double it. Add six. Divide your answer by two. Now take away the number you first thought of. The number in your head is now . . . three! Weeee!

Drive over Jakob Nielsen. Use left arrow move left and right arrow to move right. Quite useable game. It is fun, but it takes some time to load though.

Pick your own!
[12:00 am]

Just a perfect day. Today, we had lots of fun on the Andrew's Scenic Acres Farm picking raspberries, strawberries and blueberries. We also enjoyed playing with chickens, turkeys, rabbits... I sometimes wish I lived in the country.

WISEnutbot crawler
[12:00 am]

WISEnutbot crawler has hit my page at least 10 times since yesterday. Annoying isn't it? They claim to be the most advanced Internet search engine soon to be available but their web page doesn't look very reliable to me.

Amazing senior!
[12:00 am]

Can you run 1500 meters in 19 minutes, 59 seconds?
"Piece of cake" - you say.
But not when you are 101-year-old!
Mr Amey, from Brisbane set a new world record for running the 1500 metres (100 years-and-over category).

Form width workaround for NN4
[12:00 am]

Time to clean up my bookmark list. K10K closes down on the same day as Dreamless?!

People are having troubles to get the exact same width of the form fields in IE and NN4. Here is the workaround:
NN4 does not understand CSS width attribute for the form fields so use the HTML "size" attribute to size it correctly in NN4 and then use CSS (for example style="width:200 px;") to set the size in IE. IE will ignore HTML "size" attribute.

I had a dream:
- no worries about prehistoric browsers anymore.
- whole world supports standards compliance on the web.

Vibrating mobile phone with a freebie
[12:00 am]

In case you changed your mind after reading my yesterday's blog and don't want to buy a webcam anymore then take the opportunity to spend the same amount of money on something really useful - the vibrating mobile phone. By purchasing one, guess what you will get for free.

Got a webcam?
[12:00 am]

Then please be careful where you place it and please do not forget to switch it off when your girlfriend comes to visit you!
A malicious guest visiting your web site could make use of the "save picture as" function of your browser as fast as the images appear.
You know what happens after that.

Nice design
[12:00 am]

Let me be Mr. Zeldman for a moment. Cough, cough . . . Hat tip: Disk919.

This is what you find in the nifty referrer logs. Truly amazing personal web space. Exclusive use of CSS layout, no tables, separation of content, valid, and cute :-)

I am honoured to find myself on this web site. Thank you Jason.

Bad hosting company
[12:00 am]

ClueDesign is down again. I really don't know how happy we should be with this hosting company. If it continues like this we will have to find something better.

[An hour later: Up again! They heard me.]

But there is something worse then this. Imagine sitting in jail and having nothing to dress up. Somebody sends a suitcase to you contained clothing and some other stuff and the suitcase gets lost. That is worse!

Happy B'day Canada
[12:00 am]

Today Canada celebrates it's 134th birthday and most off the people here will have today and tomorrow the day off. Happy Canada Day to all my fellow Canadians!

Should I leave my computer on or should I shut it down over the night? A couple of weeks ago I decided to leave it on all the time, but because I don't know how good or how bad it is, I asked this question on OzoneAsylum and got many interesting answers. It looks like there is a majority of people who leave their computers on.
