Cookies outlawed?
[12:00 am]
EU considers tossing out cookies.
The cookie, a simplistic identification tag that most Internet users unknowingly carry when surfing the Web, runs the risk of being outlawed under a proposed privacy directive from the European Commission.

web.archive.org
[12:00 am]
There are so many cool web sites out there and I discover them just now?! Today I had lots of fun with web.archive.org. It is slow but it is worth waiting. I felt like in a time machine.
Some highlights:
Yahoo- 17.Oct.1996 [almost the same]
Google- 2.Dec.1998 [logo is cool]
Adobe- 22.Oct.1996
Zeldman - 19.Feb.1999
MSN- 22.Oct.1996 [oh...and if you are new to the Internet...]

Forum
[12:00 am]
I am almost done with the tiny, sweet, little forum but give me a day or two to test it a little bit.
Opera applauds Microsoft's decision to shut out non-Microsoft browsers.
The page will render fine in Opera5 and NS 6.01. I had problems with IE 6 though :-)

Infonesia
[12:00 am]
Infonesia is what we've got. I feel like I am choking on too much information this days. Is it time to throw the TV out of the window?
Design is not dead(?), no-one killed it, it's not evolving or mutating into something wonderous and mind-altering. It's stagnating, drowning in the vomit of a million corporate design-whores fuc*ing it every day for their own selfish reasons.

Macromedia vs. Adobe
[12:00 am]
An idea for the Halloween? Maybe?
Software-maker Macromedia Inc. is claiming it owns the patent to Adobe Systems Inc.'s popular Photoshop program, according to a suit filed in federal court Friday.
So what if Macromedia wins? Adobe wan't be allowed to produce Photoshop anymore? I love the products of both companies, but this is too much.
We watched "Heart of Darkness" yesterday. What a strange movie!

Professor Hawking says
[12:00 am]
Interesting web site. Something
I don't think the human race will survive the next thousand years, unless we spread into space. There are too many accidents that can befall life on a single planet. But I'm an optimist. We will reach out to the stars.
- says Professor Hawking, the world's best known cosmologist.
Scary, isn't it?

Logitech Cordless Optical Mouse
[12:00 am]
I bought Logitech Cordless Optical Mouse today. No ball, no cord, . . . and it works! Who would ever believe that?
I am pretending to be busy redesigning a new look and feel for clueDesign.com web site. When will we be finished? Dunno ;-)
Yesterday's pic. However relaxed the atmosphere may appear, it is not.

Useful IE shortcuts
[12:00 am]
Double murder in my neighbourhood. Did the world go mad?
Some of you might now this one already, but I didn't. Using IE on Windows, ALT + D will bring you to the address bar. A very handy shortcut.
Also, you can type only sashadesign in your address bar end hit CTRL + ENTER. The browser will add www. and .com for you. In case it doesn't work, go to Tools » Internet Options » Advanced and check "Use inline AutoComplete for Web addresses.

Google
[12:00 am]
Richard Wiggins tears apart some of the ways Google site changed after September 11. Very interesting reading.
Reading the article mentioned above I found two Google pages that I have never seen before. The first one is sad, the second one is happy. The first one is the Google Search Statistics from 9/11/01. The second one is the online museum of Google holidays logos.
According to Google's Zeitgeist Jolene Blalok is the top gaining query for the week ending October 1. I must admit I have never heard about her before. I also must admit that she looks good ("looks good" is excessively moderated for this sort of beauty, but you must understand that I am a married man).

Typography links
[12:00 am]
The consumption of alcohol may make you think . . . [via asylum]
How to make web pages without any knowlegde of typography? No way.
Take a deep look at the following websites (as I did) and become a typography expert (as I didn't):
Counterspace
Alien Typography
wpd - typography
I liked and enjoyed this three, but there are many others I guess. Feel free to post good typography links here ;-)

Nice quote
[12:00 am]
"Time flies when you are having fun." [Unknown]
"Time is fun when you are having flies." [Kermit the Frog]
I thought Kermit's quote might be a perfect one for this web site ;-)

NN4
[12:00 am]
My NN 4.08 at work was behaving very strangely so I decided to remove it and install a fresh copy. Easy said. I spend about 15 minutes to find it on Netscape's web site. No success. Am I blind, is it bad usability or are they trying to push Netscape 6.1? Netscape users should upgrade their browsers, I wish that so diligently, but I cannot convince my coworkers to do so since NN4 is the only browser that can handle our data base management tool :(
Does anybody know the direct link? I am too tired and frustrated to look for it any further.
Did you noticed the new Google design. Not a huge change though.

20 Most Critical Internet Security Vulnerabilities
[12:00 am]
The SANS Institute released today a document summarizing the Top 20 Most Critical Internet Security Vulnerabilities segmented into three categories: General Vulnerabilities, Many administrators will certainly find this document interesting.
And here is something really funny. I spend plenty of time surfing on German web sites [yes, u-neek you are not alone here], no wonder I sometimes encounter weird ones such as the web site about Citizens Initiative for Animated traffic signs. [Tip: click on "Beispiele"]. The main goal of this initiative is to increase the security on the streets. Looks like they are very serious about that and provide us some real examples how it can be done in real life.
October, shouldn't we start to prepare for Halloween?
