[12:00 am]

I received a strange email yesterday.

What did you do before the Web?
How did you find the web?
What do you see as the greatest strengths of the web?
You can get some answers to this and some other crucial questions at lemurzone/pixelview - behind the screen with independent designers, developers and others.

Afgan Girl
[12:00 am]

Steve McCurry: Unveiling the Face of War I couldn't resist to buy National Geographic's 100 best pictures edition. The cover is Steve McCurry's famous photo of a 12-year-old Afghan girl. The portrait first appeared on National Geographic's cover in June 1985. McCurry didn't speak the local language, Pashtun, and he didn't get his cover girl's name. But he did learn that she came from the Kunduz region of northern Afghanistan. His efforts to locate her during 10 subsequent visits have come to naught. He doesn't even know if she's still alive.

Hello World
[12:00 am]

Hello World!
I had no idea that there were so many different computer languages. Time to invent some kind of computer esperanto.

Talking about different languages, today's scribble entry made me think. "Diun mor"?! My translator or Google were not able to help me. But there are always Asylumites to solve the mysteries. It is apparently Kebreni Language.

[12:00 am]

Mozilla 0.9.6 is out.
Among other new features Mozilla now displays page icons in the url bar (favicon). Read Mozilla 0.9.6 release notes to find out more about new stuff. It looks like we will get some competition after all. According to Mozilla Developement Roadmap we might expect the Version 1.0 in April 2002.

Cell Phone
[12:00 am]

After so many years of decline, I got my first cell phone today. I have lived without it pretty good so far and I don't think it'll make a big change in my life from now on, but I must agree that it can be useful in many situations. I promised to myself right away that I won't make a public spectacle of myself and force innocent people around me to listen to foul-mouth conversations that they do not wish to hear at all.

Interesting articles; useful utility
[12:00 am]

I can only recommend - The World of Fonts. Make yourself a coffee or a tea, take a deep breath, and read it through. It is really interesting.

I just discovered sweet little utility IE StyleSheet Browser

This is an extension for Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 5. It allows you to right click and bring up a list of stylesheets used by the page. From this list you can view the code, open up the stylesheets with your registered CSS application, toggle whether they are enabled/disabled, change them and add in new stylesheets of your choice.

With this thingy you can change my website completely ;-)

Rogers Cable
[12:00 am]

Oh man, this is what I received today from my ISP:

Rogers Cable is making changes to its high-speed Internet service over the next few weeks. This transition is part of Rogers' commitment to take greater responsibility for the operation and management of our high-speed network. These changes will result in a better service, including for example, Web-based Email giving you Email access from anywhere in the world. Details on additional improvements to our high-speed service will be available over the coming months. To make these improvements, the following services will be affected during the transition: Email, Newsgroups, WebSpace, Member Services as well as the Excite for Rogers @Home start page.

I already expected Rogers to go its own way after the recent bad news about Excite@Home. Reading the FAQ page, there is one thing that I really dislike here:

The Rogers Internet network is dynamically based; static IP addresses are not issued. Your IP address can potentially be different every time you connect.

I want one IP like it has always been!

IE troubles again.
A newly reported vulnerability in Microsoft's Internet Explorer allows hackers to steal or corrupt cookie information on a user's desktop through a malformed URL at a Web site or in an HTML e-mail.

[12:00 am]

I updated the refs page. It doesn't look so out of place any more. I hope.

Since 27 October SelfHTML 8.0 by Stefan Muenz is ready for you to download. New in this version is the section for XML-Programming. I am the happy one who can read and understand this impressive work. I am sure it will appear one day on English, but it will require lots of work.

Lovely Saturday
[12:00 am]

Saturday is the only day of the week when Sofia and I have time to be together all day long. First we had a breakfast in a cute European style restaurant. It is really not easy to find those type of restaurants here in Toronto.
After the breakfast we felt like spending more money, so we decided to buy some kitchen stuff. We ended up buying a juice extractor. Finally I can make my own fresh squeezed juice. Small things can make us happy sometimes.
We had a dinner in "Il Fornello" restaurant. Their dinner looks and tastes much better then their web site. I ate too much but it was the beer that made me feel so fattened to a point of disgust. Next time I'll order a glass of mineral water only.
What a nice saturday.
