Microsoft search sucks, we all know it. There is a better alternative.
Search Microsoft-related sites using Google.
Also sweet, Mac related search.

A beautiful wood carving, we found in a park at the Beaches area, had to be added in my photos section. I am sure, this kind of work requires many days of work. In fact, they are creating a different carving on the other side of the stem.

Here is something I feel bad about right now. Google crawled my page at the time when I was transferring it to the new server or when it was down. Can you imagine how sad it is? The worst part, I'll soon loose my "arouse me" position.

GIF pronunciation pageThe GIF graphics file format was invented by CompuServe in 1987. In the decade since, a debate has been raging as to the correct way to pronounce "GIF": like "jif", or with a hard "g" as in "gift" as a majority of Mac users seem to prefer.
I am not a Mac user but I pronounce it with a hard "g".

I've been into chess lately, as you might have noticed. It is a great game, but it needs a lot of time and devotion. I happened to find out about a great chess match that starts today, Anand vs. Kramnik. Kramnik is the world's best chess master and Anand holds the third place. They are playing advanced chess, invented by Garry Kasparov, which means, each player is allowed to use a computer. It'll be fun to follow the games!

The Webby Awards Winners 2002The list reflects the best Web sites in 30 categories as selected by members of the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences and the People's Voice Voting. These winners and nominees exemplify the very best that the Internet has to offer.
For some reason, the page above ends brutally with an unclosed <td> tag?! (This has been fixed in the meantime).

Which one do you like better?
I often have problems explaining things. I know something is bad and ugly, but don't know how to defend my statement. A couple of days ago I had a problem explaining why creating the pop-up windows all around the site is a bad idea. Or, why code for standards? Why use CSS? The list is long . . . One of those problems that was bugging me a lot lately is the "click here" syndrom. In order to get some help I started the following topic on one of the web design lists:
Somebody mentioned somewhere, "click here" links are bad, and I personally don't like them and try to put meaningful text in my links. Most of the management team members in my company, however, give me a text like this:
Click here for our newest . . .
What do you think? Are "click here" links bad, and if yes why?
Here is the conclusion:
- Enough people know that underlines are links and if you put them under meaningful text, then that should be more effective. (Ben)
- Google uses the "page rank" system, which takes into account text link. Meaningful link text thus can increase the ranking of the page you link to.(Tom)
- The biggest problem with "click here" links is that they make it impossible for individuals using a screen reader to quickly evaluate links on a page. (Josh)
- Not everyone is "clicking". (Ryan)
- look at the menubar at the top of any running application. Does it have "Click Here for Files | Click Here for Edit | etc". (Bruce)
- Imagine Yahoo full of "click here" links. (Steven)

Have you ever missed a multiple undo/redo feature in Photoshop? CTRL+Z toggles between undo/redo instead of going back to as many steps as you want? Here is the tip:
Go to Edit » Preferences » General (or CTRL+K) and choose Ctrl+Y on the drop-down box labeled "Redo Key" and enter how many history states you want. For example, if you choose 20 you will then be able to press CTRL+Z up to 20 times for undo's and CTRL+Y for redo's.
Photoshop is like a box of chocolates . . . or something like that.

And now something different.
WaSP is back with its new focus shifted from the browser maker to the developer. Leading browser makers did a great job in supporting core web standards. It is now up to us, web designers and developers, to build sites with structurally meaningful markup.

Sasha
[12:17 am]
Hey Sasha!
You seem like a really neat person and I really like your work.
I have quite a strange question for you. My husband and I are expecting our first baby and we really love the name Sasha. We have gotten criticism from our friends that it is a good name only for a girl and that if we name our son that he will be picked on by others. So I was wondering what you thought. Did you wish you had a different name, something more "manly" or do you love your name as much as we do? Any input would be appreciated. Ragini
Don't start making jokes about my name now, these nice people could change their mind.
By the way, you should see the paragraph above inside the quotation marks, otherwise you are not using a modern browser :-)

Mozilla 1.0 ReleasedWe are pleased to announce the release of Mozilla 1.0, available for download now. Thanks to everyone who made this possible.
After installing Mozilla 1.0, you end up on a nice start page, that validates, but looks very different in IE6/Win. Is that on purpose or by accident? :-)
A choice between larger serif and smaller sans typeface available again for your pleasure.

I just stumbled across a cute program Mouse Odometer. It is a fun program that measures the distance your mouse has travelled on the screen. It tells you how far your mouse goes, how many keys you pressed, and how many clicks for every application you use. I climbed the The Eiffel Tower in less then an hour!

Unicode, Palette Man
[12:48 am]
Check out the nice application called SC UniPad. It is a native Unicode editor for Windows 95/98/NT/2000/ME/XP. It allows you to enter plain Unicode text and to save and load it in different formats. It provides a lot of features to help you working with Unicode text. Real time saver!
Tell me, tell me, what do you get when mixing Jakob Nielsen and Flash?
Palette Man is a color palette-generation program that is geared toward web designers. You are allowed to select 5 colors from the 216 color web-safe palette and see how they interact.
A pretty neat tool, isn't it?

Looks like misspelling of famous people's names worked. That's funny.

Hello Apache/PHP/mySQL
Bye Bye IIS/ASP/MS Access.
We will have much more fun from now on, heh. I hope nothing is broken, but please let me know if you encounter any problems.
