Validate Canadian postal codes in PHP
[01:49 am]

I spent a couple of hours writing a "simple" function that validates Canadian postal codes (something like M4J2L4). Anybody interested in how the function looks like? Any improvements?

Think twice before you quit your job :-)

They say time is the fire in which we burn. I am not sure how to define time. Maybe that's why some people decided to describe it with pictures.

Google News launched
A good reason to change my browser's home page.
Take a look at the footer line:
This page was generated entirely by computer algorithms without human editors. No humans were harmed or even used in the creation of this page.

Several months ago I received a so called Nigerian Scum Letter. Of course, I didn't fall into the trap, but found out later, some people did. Some people got even killed after travelling to Africa. If you receive a letter like this just ignore it or spend some time to email them back.

Take a look at a nice article at WPDFD about how browsers and WYSIWYG editors cope with fairly complicated CSS Positioning.

Ever imagined how visually impaired people use computers or visit websites? Ever imagined how hard it would be for you as a designer to create a website for people with visual impairments but still accessible enough for people without them. Perkins School for the Blind website is an admirable case of forward-thinking, user-centred design.

Interesting tools found at 508Compliant.com. Particularly interesting is the "Grayscale the Page" tool, which removes colors from the page so you can see what the page will look like to a color-blind person. Unfortunately, the tool requires IE 5 or above.

Try it

Today started my Java course. It is a continuation of the course I attended from January to April this year. I haven't had enough sleep last night so that I was very tired during the lecture and was hardly able to concentrate on what the professor was talking about. However, I heard an interesting thing he said, that will remain in my mind.

If you want to be a writer, you have to read. Every word you write, read a thousand. If you want to be a programmer, read other programmers' code. Every line of code you write, study a thousand.

Ripped off from php.net:
PHP 4.2.3 has been released with a large number of bug fixes. It is a maintenance release, and is a recommended update for all users of PHP, and Windows users in particular. A complete list of changes can be found in the ChangeLog.
Thanks Svarog for the info.

Get a coffee or beer and read it!
99.9% of Websites Are Obsolete, By Jeffrey Zeldman. An equal opportunity disease afflicts nearly every site now on the Web, from the humblest personal homepages to the multi-million-dollar sites of corporate giants. Cunning and insidious, the disease goes largely unrecognized because it is based on industry norms. Though their owners and managers may not know it yet, 99.9% of all websites are obsolete.
