Sony VAIO Notebook
[03:56 pm]

Every time I went to Future Shop or Best Buy, I heard a voice coming from the laptop department, telling me "buy me, buy me . . . ". I couldn't stand it anymore, so I got a new toy, Sony VAIO Notebook. The configuration is pretty much the same as this.

With the notebook, I also got Linksys Wireless-B Network Kit for Notebooks which allows me to set up a network with my wired PCs and share the Internet connection.

Yaay!

FICS
[11:15 pm]

I spend too much time playing chess on FICS these days. I should be working instead. Most people at FICS come to play chess, but many are just chatting, and they are usually very funny. Here is a funny conversation I read tonight :-)

ahorse: My mom very proudly explained that she never buys Swiss cheese because "with allthose holes you don't get as much per pound."

plugys: tell your mom they don't weigh the holes!

And yes, there is even a website with FICS Quotes!

MM new design
[01:28 am]

Macromedia redesign!
I only spent a few minutes looking at the new design, and it seems that they got an almost valid XTHML document with a decent CSS layout. In my eyes, this design looks better then the previous.

ARRRRGH!
[11:44 pm]

While helping his wife in the job search, my brother stumbled across a rather funny example of an attempt to decieve search engines.
It doesn't look all that bad, until you scroll down the page. I don't want to blame anybody, but some webmasters should set Google Information for Webmasters page as their homepage and specifically read the last section "Quality Guidelines - Specific recommendations".

Popup Blocker

Popup Blocker in action Popup Blocker is definitely one of the best Google Toolbar features. Surfing is a more pleasant experience without the annoying pop-ups.
848 pop-ups blocked so far!

Google calculator, use Google to evaluate mathematical expressions, a new special feature. I learned about it via kottke.org.

Magic Knight's Tour
[08:43 pm]

I don't know about you, but we used to play games and solve puzzles during the boring school hours. One of the interesting puzzles was to move the knight so that each square of the board is visited exactly once. Math notebooks were always perfect for this puzzle. Nowadays, in order to save paper, you can find a perfectly working javascript interface.

All this, because I read an interesting article at ChessBase, my favorite chess website. The article above and a story about finding a magic knight's tour has also been slashdotted. Geeks like this kind of stuff.

I came across an interesting ASCII-Homepage today.
ASCII-moving section is really amazing.
You need to have a program to do this kind of stuff, right?

Power blackout!
[12:08 pm]

We are back up again, but who knows for how long. Quite an experience! In Sarajevo, during the war, we didn't have power for months, but that was a different story.
Well, at least, we could see the stars in Toronto, more clearly then ever.

Worms and Tildes
[01:05 pm]

Internet Worm Targets Microsoft WindowsA fast-spreading Internet worm detected Monday afternoon is infecting thousands of computers worldwide and is expected to cause headaches for business and home users running the Microsoft Windows operating system.

On the other hand, I sometimes get a tilde (~) file on my desktop. First I thought I had a virus, but than I found an article that explains the problem. Yeah, I still use Outlook Express as my email client. Mozilla Mail is much better, I know, but we all have bad habits, don't we?

Spam works?
[04:12 pm]

Swollen Orders Show Spam's Allure. Sadly, spam works An order log left exposed at one of Amazing Internet Products' websites revealed that, over a four-week period, some 6,000 people responded to e-mail ads and placed orders for the company's Pinacle herbal supplement. Most customers ordered two bottles of the pills at a price of $50 per bottle.
Do the math . . .

Beans There is one thing that bothers me tonight. Is it better to soak the beans overnight before cooking or is it OK to cook them right away?
What are the pros and cons?
