We are back in Toronto
[05:55 pm]

Oh well, everything has its end, and it would be foolish to think that our vacation is an exception. We will miss the Old Europe and people we met there, but on the other hand, it is good to be safely back and see again people and animals we left here.

Greenland
We took this picture during our flight from Paris to Toronto. The captain informed us that we were flighing a few miles away from the southern tip of Greenland.

[06:58 am]

As promised, I uploaded a few pics from Evora, Monsaraz, and Sintra. These places in Portugal are astonishing.

Huh
[09:42 pm]

This is my longest break between the posts ever, but I have an excuse, I am on vacation and my access to the Internet is very limited. We are on our way back to Paris, where we will catch the airplane back to Toronto.

Portugal
[12:54 pm]

At the moment we are in Lisbon, the city of Euro 2004. It is the city where Sofia grew up and where her family lives. It is a great city! We already visited Evora, a city of the golden age of Portugal after the destruction of Lisbon by the earthquake of 1755, and Monsaraz, jewel in the crown of the Alentejo region.

We are having a great time, dispite of the fact that the temperatures are very high (in Evora and Monsaraz the temperature reached almost 40 degrees Celsius). Cybercafes are rather rare in Portugal, but I'll try to post pictures as soon as possible.

Cadaques
[10:43 am]

Cadaques! Salvador Dali said this was the most beautiful village in the world. I respect the man and his opinions! We went here to visit Dali's house. The artistic genius and his wife Gala spent long periods here.

Afterwards, we drove around the area and visited the spectacular Cap de Creus, which is the last outlet of the Pyrenees and at the same time the most easterly point of the Iberian Peninsula on the map.

Dali Theatre-Museum
[01:09 am]

Salvador Dali is my favorite painter and artist. For that reason I really wanted to visit a small city called Figueres, located around 100 km north of Barcelona. Figueres was Salvador Dali's hometown. We visited Dali Theatre-Museum, which is home to one of the largest collections of Dali's work. We also visited the crypt with Dali's grave, situated in the centre of the museum.

Parc Güell
[10:42 pm]

Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984, this heady brew of architectural wizardy includes trencadis tiling, a serpentine bench, fairy-tale pavilions, Gothic archways, and the columned Sala Hipostila (originally intended as a market hall). In true Gaudi style, playfulness and symbolism pervade every aspect of the park.

A few pictures we took, while strolling around the Park Güell.

La Pedrera
[08:43 am]

Unmistakably Gaudi, this Modernista marvel seems to grow from the very pavement itself. Fluid and eerily alive, its curving façade sprouts writhing wrought iron balconies. A cluster of mosaic chimneys keeps watch over the rooftop like shrewd-eyed knights.

A few pics we took while walking near this beautiful building.

Sagrada Familia
[06:40 am]

Excerpt from our travel guide, since they explain things much better than me. Nothing quite prepares you for the impact of the Sagrada Familia up close. A fantastical tour de force of the imagination, Antoni Gaudi's ambitious church has provoked endless controversy. After a lifetime of dedication, the church was only partially complete when Gaudi died in 1926 and, as a work in progress, it offers the unique chance to watch the eighth wonder of the world in the making. During the last 80 years and at incalculable cost, sculptors and architects have added their own touches to Gaudi's dream. Now financed by over a million visitors each year, it is estimated the project will be complete by 2030.

Here are our humble photos.

Sitting at the Boulevard Saint Germain
[10:06 am]

Here we are talking pictures all day long. Hotcafe network is my life saver in Paris, however, none of these cafes is cheep, but who cares, we are on vacation, aren't we? I can really confirm it, Paris is the most beautiful city in the world, or maybe it is just my feeling at the moment.

More pictures to come . . .
