Gens Una Sumus
[09:51 pm]
I bought a new chessboard with a beautiful set of rosewood, handmade pieces. I paid a little fortune for them! After a long break of almost 5 years, I'm making a come back to chess tournaments. Some of my old records are still shown at the Chess Federation's of Canada website, which is amazing! (Note: the site shows random errors, must be ASP/MS Access combination). As mentioned earlier, I play a lot on the internet, but it's been a while since I competed eye-to-eye. The tournament is Macedonian Labour Day 2004, which will surely attract some strong players. I don't expect much, just fun!

An interesting way of choosing the right colours
[08:09 pm]
Where'd Ya Get That Color Scheme? Design inspiration can come from anywhere, anything, and at anytime. One of my personal favorites is photographs. They're perfect for scoping out fresh color schemes.

Look ma, I've passed the 3 weeks hurdle!
[07:29 pm]

It's Friday, my birthday so to say, because I was born on Friday three weeks ago. Sasha named me Petko, which in his language means something like Friday, just like Robinson Crusoe's companion, but with the difference that I am not cannibalistic. Petko is a boys name, which is kind of stupid because nobody really knows my gender yet. If I am a girl, I'll end up with a boys name just like my mom. You have to admit, after 3 weeks I am starting to look really pretty. I mean, look at my feathers! Compared to what I looked like one or even worse, two weeks ago, I do make progress, don't you think?

Sad story
[08:59 pm]
I had to hold tears back while reading the story of Miracle the Cockatiel.
Interesting article on CSS

A Matter of Styles The quality of code generated by a team rarely owes as much to the skill of the individual members as it does to the level of communication between them.

The New Old Bridge of Mostar
[10:10 pm]
Since centuries bridges bear special significance in Bosnia. One of our best writers, Ivo Andric, was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1961 for his work "The Bridge on the Drina", a literary experience that you should not miss.
My brother recently visited Mostar and took some nice pictures of The (New) Old Bridge of Mostar. The bridge has recently been reconstracted. Its history is exceptional. Mostar, important historical centre of Bosnia and Herzegovina, originated in the XV century as a defence outpost next to a crossing over the torrential Neretva river. But only in the year 1566-67, after 10 years of hard works, during the Ottoman domination, the construction of the famous stone bridge was completed by architect Hayruddin. The bridge, named "Stari Most" (=Old Bridge), became pretty soon the symbol of the town that takes the name from it (mostari= bridge guardians).
On the 9th of November 1993, during the civil war, the bridge was destroyed by shelling, and, in a few hours, a masterpiece of the past times, an example of the ancient constructive technique and an element of regional identity was definitely cancelled. Damage due to this destruction is invaluable, either for the town of Mostar, either for the whole cultural world; but on the spiritual side and in the common ideal imaginary, nobody, as Bosnian people and Mostar citizens, is able to understand deeply the real meaning of such a los.

Keep your fingers crossed
[01:24 am]
Cute, am I not?

Only one egg hatched, which is OK, this kind of things happen. Our main worry is this little baby. We really want to keep it alive. The picture shows the baby when it was about 1 week old. When we saw it like this, we really thought that there must be something wrong with it, but good people tell us that it looks perfect. Parents are doing a great job.

Friday (the 13th) food for thought
[08:57 pm]
A sign that PHP could soon be owned by Sun PHP 5's official release occurred on July 13th with a complete re-haul of object-oriented programming features and improved MySQL functions. These are sure to be great additions to the package for PHP developers. However, many of the changes to PHP are hinting to something that may not necessarily be something PHP developers will like down the road.

Toronto daily. Maybe.
[09:16 pm]
I'll try to post daily pictures of Toronto, the city we live in. I am sure some folks will find it interesting. This idea came to my mind after seeing Berliner Morgenpost's "366 Photos from Berlin".

Baby cockatiels hatching out
[02:32 pm]
sashaDesign starts to look like a real home zoo site, but the picture of a baby cockatiel is hard to neglect. The dinosaur-looking baby is one day old. It peeps! We saw parents feeding it, which is a very good sign considering unexperienced parents.

Yo-Yo & Ciuffo

A good level of respect is required of both parties when such an encounter occurs.

Daily CSS
[11:35 pm]
CSS 1.0 Once-A-DayI'm going to post an entire section of the revised CSS 1.0 Specification, or in the case of the longer sections just part of one, every weekday (unless I'm away on vacation or something). And after each section I will then do my best to write, in my own words, a short, concise summary of what it really had to say.

Webmonkey is back?
[10:47 pm]
As it looks like, the ultimate web developer's resource Webmonkey is back again, with a slightly different URL though. We're totally back! Webmonkey is alive and kicking, serving up new articles all hot-n-fresh like a stack of banana pancakes. With syrup.
One banana pancake for me, please!
