Should Links Be Underlined?

An interesting discussion at 'This Is Broken' initiated with a comment regarding the new Yahoo! beta front page. Users posted many pros and cons that need to be considered. I am inclined to share Jakob Nielsen's viewpoints expressed in his article, guidelines for visualizing links.

Amazon wants me to redesign?

I have no clue why Amazon recommends this book to me. It is spooky a bit. I never bought a web design related book from them, hm? Maybe they just want me to redesign this page.
The other item they recommended to me was Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11" DVD. Now that puzzles me even more.

Flash Intros

The 36th Chess Olympiad website has a Flash intro that irritates me. We all know that Flash intros are bad and should go to hell, but as it looks like they still survive. Why is that so? I believe that stubborn customers and bosses who insist on this "cool feature" are the guilty ones, not the designers. In my previous company we had a client who badly wanted an intro on her company's website. We were unsuccessful in our attempts to move her away from that idea. And, it didn't stop there! She even wanted to remove the "skip intro" link we created, to make sure that everybody who comes to her site sees the Flash intro without skipping. Needless to say how pointless the intro was, but we did it, and the site was done. A few weeks later, she asked us to put a "skip intro" link, because she couldn't wait for so long every time she comes to the site. A few weeks later, she asked us to remove the intro.

Isocity

Very interesting idea Isocity is a project which was created in an attemt to unite PixelPushers from around the globe. The site basically works as a small showcase for artists, as well as a linkpage.
