Chess beauties
[03:35 pm]

World Chess Beauty Contest is an interesting contest, even for those who are not interested in chess. That is the title of a new chess "tournament", initiated by a crew that calls themselves the "blitz brothers". They have set up a research site to find the most beautiful (we assume female) chess players on the planet. The first participants have already started making their moves, and chess players all over the world are invited to submit "cool photos". Take a deep breath.

As it looks like, chess's answer to Anna Kournikova, Alexandra Kosteniuk is not among the participants, at least for now.

Referrer spam
[11:55 am]

It is a neverending battle. By now, I probably have about 200 lines in my .htaccess file blocking various referrer spam sites. Yesterday, I recieved a message from a person who stumbled across my website while searching for "web developer toronto". This person was wondering "what exactly are these 'refs' and why are all these pornographic listings on my web site?". Very embarrassing, isn't it? The more I think about this, the more I get conviced that the refs page should be taken down. That wouldn't stop referral spam, but it would definitely prevent potentially embarrassing situtations.

Google Maps
[06:42 pm]

If you haven't seen the new Google Maps site, make sure to take a peak. Very, very pretty. Currently, it seems to be North America only, but knowing Google, they will surely extend it in the near future. I was able to find my street by searching on my postal code. It is hard to believe that the whole thing is not Flash, everything is XHTML, CSS, and Javascript driven!

An interview with Sam
[12:12 am]

As long as people purchase Viagra, require porn, or gamble online, there will be spammers. Interview with a link spammer is an interesting reading that gives a good insight into the mind of those who prefer to call themselves "search engine optimizers".
