We were in a Chinese restaurant yesterday and got a replica of an ancient Chinese coin. It is supposed to bring you health, wealth and luck for the New Year.

Their actually called "i-ching" (<- almost definitely a gross spelling mistake) coins. I believe their related to numbers in that it's a custom to recieve a different coin on each birthday/new year. I think that each coin brings different things like helth, luck, prosperty, wisdom and so on. I've also been told that each side can have a different meaning and that they can be used to read your fortune by tossing them and seeing which way up they fall, it's kinda like having your own personal tarrot deck or something.
I think the one on the left is given to you when your 4 years old. I have no idea what the one on the right is. I used have one exactly like the one on the left; wore it around my neck on a chain but I got angry one day and tossed it into the Brisbane river. Heh, bad break-up with a girl... - eh, I'm ranting.
Anyways, I'm just dropping by. I'm not likely to be back any time soon but it's good to see ya still going strong with the weblog...
