Dave Shea says: "I Do Not Use Accesskeys" Over time, I've come to the conclusion that Accesskeys are more harmful than good. Until browsers allow a user to override a document's Accesskeys, I won't use them.
Actually, I came to the same conclusion a while ago. I wanted to implement the accesskeys here and gave up for the same reasons.

me too. I jumped on the bandwagon for them after reading dive into accessibility, and jumped off the bandwagon when I figured out it was munging perfectly good anchor text for search engines.

I have implemented access keys onto my personal site with no problems. I have highlighted each link on the main menu with the matching access key, which means keyboard users can quickly see what the keys are. Check out my efforts at http://doepud.tk
