Lately » IE6 image display bug
I think that IE6/WinXP has real troubles showing images. I didn't tell you, but that was the main reason why I switched to Firefox a few days ago. This bug with IE6 (an example I just reproduced) usually happens randomly and on pages with small, repeated gifs. I have a feeling that it started right after I installed Windows critical security updates, but I might be wrong.
I stumbled across two topics at OzoneAsylum today, where people complained about a similar problem:
· Problem with IE 6
· A funny image bug

i noticed that on tableless sites (like sashadesign.com and sarajevo-x.com) it never happens. ;)

Well, it happends on all phpBB forums, webemail interfaces etc. I did not notice so meny the same gifs on sarajevo-x or sashadesign... probbably that is why it does not happeneds.
The same feeling I have, it startet right after sec. updates I made at my W2K.

http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG10-HTML-TECHS/#tables
"Do not use tables for layout unless the table makes sense when linearized. Otherwise, if the table does not make sense, provide an alternative equivalent (which may be a linearized version)."
"Authors should use style sheets for layout and positioning. However, when it is necessary to use a table for layout, the table must linearize in a readable order. When a table is linearized, the contents of the cells become a series of paragraphs (e.g., down the page) one after another. Cells should make sense when read in row order and should include structural elements (that create paragraphs, headings, lists, etc.) so the page makes sense after linearization."

i solved the problem by using the following piece of code:
<img src="<TRANSPARENT_GIF,1x1>" style="background-image: url(<REAL_GIF_TO_DISPLAY>); width: ??px; height: ??px; border: 0" alt="" />
this bug can be reproduced by putting 100's of same gif images (including different ones as well), and reloading the page a few times.
i hope that helps.
